Hello there! My name is Juno and I run the Azuki Ice Cream blog. My original blog (under the same name) was made when I was a teenager preparing for and studying abroad in Japan, but now I'm back as a college graduate and teacher!
I am an Assistant Language Teacher (of English) in a public junior high school here in Japan through the JET program. I will also teach at an elementary school starting in April, but for now it's just the junior high. My placement is pretty rural. We do have a train station but it's a 45min or more drive any direction to anything more than a village. My experience is quite different than anything you see in these "top ten AMAZING things about Japan" videos because most foreigners find themselves in Tokyo and Tokyo is very different than rural areas like where I live.
One of the other ALTs in my area said "Japan is an odd mix of really high tech and really low tech" and that's honestly the best way to describe it. For example, even in my tiny rural village we have fiber optic internet but my house is heated by a portable kerosene heater.
I am writing this blog so friends and family back home can see what I am up to and to share small town Japan life. There's a lot more to Japan than the Shibuya scramble crossing, Tokyo Skytree, and Harajuku fashion :)
